REclaim Weekend: Scrap Space Gadget Gameshow!

We challenge you to join in The Scrap Space’s Gadget Gameshow! 

What gadget can your team make from our scrap stash in just 2 hours?! Will it transport something the furthest..? Move the heaviest load..? Be the most ingenious..? Look the best..?! There will be prizes!...

GADGET: “A small device or machine with a particular purpose.” “A small mechanical device or tool, especially an ingenious one.” SCRAP: “A small piece or amount of something, especially one that is left over after the greater part has been used.”

The Scrap Space will provide the scrap. Can you turn it into an ingenious gadget?!

Each team will be provided with a variety of tapes, glue, other fixing supplies and scissors at their making station. There will be a central scrap stash to choose materials from. The scrap stash will include: tubes, tubs, cardboard, cord, elastic, balls, beads, sticks, foam, paper and a load of random stuff from The Scrap Space!

You can do any planning you like beforehand but you can’t bring anything with you. You will have 30 minutes on arrival to survey the scrap on offer, followed by 2 hours to make your gadget. Then the teams will take turns to show off their gadget and the judges will announce the winners.

Categories judged include:

- the gadget that causes an item to travel the furthest - the gadget that causes the greatest mass of items to travel simultaneously - the most ingenious gadget - the best looking gadget The judges’ decision is final!

Enter a teams of 2 to 4 people of any age from 8+ to adult. Enter with your friends, your family, your colleagues, your community group...

You'll need to gather in the large marquee at 2pm for your briefing on the scrap materials available and the tools you will be provided with (think scissors and a variety of fixing means...). You will have from 2.30 to 4.30pm for gadget creating. You can make one or several gadgets in that time and pick one, some or all of the aims to concentrate on. From 4.30 to 5pm each team will demonstrate their gadgets and the winners will be announced. The judges' decisions will be final!

All materials provided. 'Pay what you can'. Suggested price if you can pay is £10 per team.
